Information About Josiah

Josiah Lemuel Mauller, age 23, passed away peacefully at his home in Selma, Indiana, on Wednesday, November 6, 2024, after courageously battling cancer for five and a half years. Josiah was surrounded by love in his final moments, having fought with the same strength, determination, and spirit that defined his life.

Born in Muncie, Indiana, on November 11, 2000, Josiah was a cherished son of David and Angie (Kissick) Mauller. A lifelong resident of Selma, he was a 2019 graduate of Wapahani High School. After high school, Josiah attended Ball State University, earning a bachelor’s degree in criminal justice in 2023.

In January of 2021, Josiah began his public safety career joining the Albany-Delaware Township Volunteer Fire Department with his older brother Samuel.  Despite Josiah undergoing medical treatments for his cancer, Josiah was determined to train and learn, so he could start giving back to his community.  In June of 2021, Josiah successfully completed his training and became a certified Indiana State Basic Firefighter.

In January of 2022, Josiah joined the Town of Selma, Indiana Police Department as a reserve police officer.  During his time serving The Town of Selma and going through various training, Josiah began to develop his passion for law enforcement more.  While pursuing his Criminal Justice Bachelor's degree, Josiah decided that he wanted to pursue a full time career in law enforcement.

Josiah fulfilled his dream of becoming a full time law enforcement officer in April of 2023, joining the City of Muncie Police Department. During his brief time in service, Josiah was known for his unwavering commitment to helping others, always acting with integrity and devotion, both on and off duty. Josiah was the kind of person who was steadfast in his beliefs, selfless in his actions, and driven to improve himself and the world around him.

Josiah was also deeply passionate about fitness and health, regularly participating in fitness challenges, CrossFit, and encouraging others to achieve their own health goals. He loved being outdoors, taking in the beauty of the world, and living life to the fullest. He enjoyed traveling with his beloved girlfriend, Josie Dickerson, and his dog, Zeke, often sharing moments of joy over a cup of Black Rifle Coffee.

His family remembers him as someone who never backed down from a challenge and who continually sought to inspire those around him. Even in his final days, Josiah left behind a powerful message: “Keep Living a Life Worth Living.” His words were a testament to his resilience, and his belief that no matter the circumstances, we must keep pushing forward, never giving up, and never losing sight of the things that matter most.

Josiah’s legacy is one of perseverance, kindness, and love. While his time on Earth was far too short, his impact was immeasurable. His family and friends take comfort in knowing that his spirit will live on in the hearts of all who knew him and will be forever mourned by a wide circle of friends whose lives he touched with his kindness, generosity, and unwavering spirit.

May Josiah’s memory be a reminder to us all: to live with purpose, never stop fighting, and act with integrity even when no one is watching.
