Josiah's Brother

Samuel Mauller, Josiah's brother, was born in Muncie, Indiana and grew up in the Delaware County area. Throughout Samuel and Josiah's childhood, they became close and of course, fought like brothers, but had a love for one another that was inseparable.

Samuel began his public safety career in June of 2014 by joining a local volunteer fire department. After high school, Samuel went on to work as a full time EMT and part-time firefighter. In June of 2018, Samuel began his law enforcement career.

Samuel and Josiah lived together for a short period of time in Albany, Indiana which is when Samuel convinced Josiah to join the fire department with him. One thing that Samuel wishes is that Josiah and him would have been able to have been roommates for a longer period of time than they were. For the short time that Josiah lived with Samuel, they made many memories and shared multiple stories that Samuel will carry with him forever.

In 2021, while Josiah and Angie were staying in Houston for Josiah's medical treatments, Samuel moved to the Houston, Texas area. Today Samuel is a full time Deputy Constable with the Montgomery County Constables Office Precinct 4. Samuel proudly serves as a deputy and fulfills several specialized roles within the agency, including assignments as a member of the Swift Water Rescue Team and Special Response Team. His dedication to public service and commitment to excellence reflect his passion for protecting and serving his community.

During Samuel's free time, he also serves as a volunteer firefighter/EMT with the East Montgomery County Fire Department. When Samuel is not wearing a uniform, he often finds himself working in the pasture with cattle, trail riding with his horse "Quest", and spending time with his friends.

Samuel makes it a priority to call his mom almost everyday on his way in for work. He enjoys spending these moments catching up with how things are going back at home. While Samuel is no longer in Indiana, Samuel remembers a conversation that Josiah and their mother had regarding him moving to Texas, and in Josiah's words, "Samuel is where he is meant to be."

Samuel is currently serving as the registered Vice President for Maullers Ministry Inc. During Josiah's time dealing with his cancer, Samuel saw the outlook that Josiah had on life and the future. Josiah shared many times with his family that he had hopes of someday forming a foundation to help others facing similar circumstances.

In late 2024, Samuel sat down and began researching avenues on how to officially establish a registered Non-Profit Organization, 501(c)(3). After almost a year and a half of countless hours, paperwork submissions, and help from other family members, Maullers Ministry Inc. was officially recognized thanks to Samuel's commitment and effort into seeing Josiah's dream become a reality.

As Vice President of Maullers Ministry Inc., Samuel serves in a variety of leadership and operational roles that are essential to the organization's success. He oversees the ministry's social media presence, develops engaging digital content, coordinates communication among team members, and helps ensure that organizational initiatives and events run smoothly. His creativity, leadership, and dedication play a vital role in advancing the ministry's mission and strengthening its connection with the community.

A few words from Sam:

"Josiah became a role model to many, including myself. I don't think Josiah ever realized, but the last several years, I the big brother began looking up to him. Tomorrow when we pick up to carry on without you beside us, let us remember that we will see you again and in the meantime to Keep Living a Life Worth Living. There is one quote that comes to mind when I think about Josiah that I would like to leave you all with today and it is this: What makes a legend? Is it what someone did while they were alive? Or how they're remembered after they're gone?"

"Those words that I spoke during Josiah's memorial service are still true to this day. Each day I am reminded of Josiah and catch myself thinking of him often. Some days I think that he is up there laughing at us and shaking his head thinking that he cannot believe we actually made this happen, but I know that we are making him proud. It is my goal and determination to continue pushing Maullers Ministry Inc. forward and ensuring that Josiah's legacy and his story is shared with others in hopes of influencing, encouraging, and giving those in need hope that their "Day 41" is coming. One scripture of passage that I hold true to my heart personally and I believe Josiah did as well is Philippians 4:13, "I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me."
