Physical fitness was far more than a hobby for Josiah—it was a way of life. He approached every workout with determination, discipline, and the belief that physical strength built mental resilience. The gym was one of his favorite places, and he continually challenged himself to become stronger, encouraging those around him to do the same.
During his final week in the hospital, Josiah shared with his family a list of his four favorite CrossFit Hero WODs: DT, Helen, Murph, and Chad. As they reflected on the workouts together, Josiah expressed one final fitness goal. He asked that a new Hero WOD be created in his honor by combining elements from each of his favorite workouts.
His family couldn't help but point out that none of the workouts he selected were exactly easy. With his trademark determination and sense of humor, Josiah simply rolled his eyes and replied, "Well, I have done them all... and I'm sick."
That simple statement perfectly captured the grit, perseverance, and unwavering mindset that defined Josiah's life.
Following Josiah's passing, The "Mauller" Hero WOD was created to fulfill his final request. The workout incorporates carefully selected elements from DT, Helen, Murph, and Chad, creating a uniquely challenging tribute that reflects the physical and mental toughness Josiah embodied every day.
Each year on November 6, family, friends, members of the CrossFit community, and supporters of Maullers Ministry Inc. gather to complete The "Mauller" in honor of Josiah's life and legacy. More than just a workout, it has become an annual tradition—a celebration of perseverance, faith, resilience, and the reminder that true strength is measured not only by physical ability, but by the courage to keep moving forward through life's greatest challenges.
Through every repetition, every mile, and every moment of perseverance, The "Mauller" ensures that Josiah's legacy continues to inspire others to embrace adversity, pursue excellence, and to "Keep Living a Live a Worth Living".
